<p>No trip to <a href="/contikipedia/articles/austria">Austria</a> would be complete without sampling at least some of the country&#8217;s simply fantastic food and drink.</p> <p>Schnitzel, (crumbed then fried meats) are easily the most popular food here with wiener (pork) schnitzel perhaps being the most famous. The Austrians however will schnitzel almost anything and it&#8217;s not uncommon to come across turkey or beef schnitzel however the most popular and famous is the Wiener Schnitzel.</p> <p>Apple Strudel, cakes and pasties have been Austrian delicacies and favorites for hundreds of years, particularly in the cafes and coffee houses of <a href="/contikipedia/articles/vienna">Vienna</a> with perhaps the most famous being the Sachertorte chocolate cake made famous in Vienna. There is much controversy surrounding the &#8216;official&#8217; secret recipe but this famous cake is also available in <a href="/contikipedia/articles/innsbruck">Innsbruck</a> as well as other cafes through the country.</p> <p>You will find the famous purple wrapper of Milka milk chocolate as well as Mozart chocolate balls almost everywhere.
