Food and Drink - Prague
Last Updated: 2nd Nov 2012
Although the Czechs are not well known for their food, they most certainly have a distinct flavor and unique style with Prague offering a huge variety of foods and places to eat. Germanic style food with a distinct twist are popular with meats like duck, pork and chicken also being popular. As anyone from the Czech Republic will tell you, Czech dumplings are a must fro anyone who travels to the Czech capital. Dumplings are boiled balls of dough and in the Czech Republic they are cooked to suit a variety of different styles and tastes.
Beer, particularly pilsner beers, is what the Czech people are most fond of. Usually in most restaurants and cafes it is noticeably cheaper than soft drinks and even coffees and teas. Pilsner beer is named after Pilsen, the Czech town where it was invented and easily the most popular is Urquel followed by Budvar.
A good selection of traditional Czech foods are on offer during the optional Prague Lunchtime Cruise offered by most Contiki Tours visiting the city.
