Football - Barcelona

No matter where you travel in Europe you will see peoples love and passion for football (aka soccer) but perhaps nowhere in European sport is a team more important to a city than in Barcelona. Although the city boasts two teams in the Spanish Primera Liga, true Catalans however only support the almighty FC Barcelona. As well as being one of the most famous, popular, not to mention richest clubs in the world, they are also one of the most progressive. The club makes so much money it traditionally operates without a sponsor but in the 2006/07 season they actually paid UNICEF to have their name appear on the uniform and donated part of the clubs profits to the aid organization.

Football fans can make the short journey out to the home of the club, the Camp Nou stadium, for occasional tours of the stadium. The clubs famous moto is ‘More than a Club’ and this rings true as they represent the Catalan way of life and it’s almost impossible to go anywhere in the city and not see traces of this Catalan institution.
