i have looked into the flyaway bus service ( $7 one way ) that leaves lax on the lower level every 30 minutes / 24 hour..it takes you to union station which is walking distance to kyoto grand or apparently the hotels free shuttle will come pick you up.

A tip for people looking for a decent coffee shop.. if you don't already know about it, you will because most Contiki travellers find out about it - its The Grasshopper. Ask a local and they should be able to tell you where to find it.
