More Tour and Travel Advice for Europe

Laundry facilities on Contiki’s European Tours vary depending on the style of tour and length of the stays that you have in the cities.

Time Out/Superior/Hotel Tours

As a general rule, on Time Out/Superior/Hotel Tours, it is difficult to wash clothes on one night stops as your itinerary is full and finding the time to wash may be difficult.

Some hotels have coin operated laundry facilities while others offer service washing facilities that are only practical on two night stops, again due to the time take to wash and return your clothes. Service washes are also often expensive.

Occasionally your hotel will be close to a local laundry where you can wash your own clothes but it is imposable to generalize about where you may be able to do this as Contiki contracts a myriad of different hotels throughout Europe.

It is advisable to take a small measure of washing detergent with you should the need arise to do some washing yourself.

Camping and Concept/Budget Tours

On Camping and Concept/Budget tours, washing is generally widely available at most of the major campsites. Washing machine tokens or coins are the usual and washing powers are generally available from the campsites. Local coin operated laundries can also be found while on tour.

Time to wash on one night stops is often limited while two night stops allow much more time and availability.

Occasionally a service wash may be available from the campsite or accommodation where you stay.

It is advisable to take a small measure of washing detergent with you should the need arise to do some washing yourself.

“I did the budget tour and you actually have quite a few opportunities to do your laundry.”

  6. Hello, I think your blog might be having internet browser compatibility issues. When I take a look at your web site in Safari, it looks fine however, if opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping issues. I simply wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other than that, excellent blog!

  11. I’m not too fussed with this, I’m doing the 45 day Ultimate European but will be travelling for 3-4 months so I’ll be taking enough clothes for 5-7 days & a washing block (a block of what looks like soap but is designed for clothes) & just washing in the bathroom sink as I go. Nothing worse than trying to wash & dry a full load of washing when there are other things to do! It’s much easier just to do a few things at once.

  12. I bought a Rick Steves travel clothes line and im taking little sachets of laundry detergent – bathroom hand basins will suffice for my washing and then it can dry over night! don’t panic so badly people!

  13. How am I suppose to pack 35 days worth of clothes into a suitcase without doing laundry while I’m on my tour? I wish there was more detail in the article about the average amount laundry service cost and realistically how many opportunities I’ll have to access a laundromat inside a hotel or nearby.

  14. it’s kind of hard to pack enough clothes for the 2week tour if your on a weight limit, and especially if you want to bring back souvenir’s…kind of bumed about it but at the same time not a really big concern, if i have to i’ll find the time and place to do some washing if need be, if not…i’ll jst buy some new clothes…lol

  16. I did a hotel tour for 2 weeks…..don’t count on being able to use the laundry. There was only 1 hotel on the trip with 2 washers and 2 dryers (coin use) and everyone was in line for them. Otherwise, there were maybe 2 hotels with laundry service, but it cost an arm and a leg. Pack enough clothes that you won’t need to do laundry to be on the safe side!
