Widely reputed to be one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico, Morelia is the capital of the state of Michoacan and the historic centre of the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is home to a little over 600,000 people.
As well as being the center for the state government, Morelia is very much a university town and as such, the young vibe of the city contrasts nicely with the 300-400 year old buildings and architecture.
The city is dominated by the huge Morelia Cathedral while there are many other beautiful churches in the city while the city is home to a great many festivals celebrating food, religious holiday’s culture and music throughout the year.
People who travel to Morelia enjoy the more common retail shopping while the Plaza San Francisco is also home to some great locals arts stores while local sweets are also a specialty. The enchiladas in Morelia are also something unique to the city and provide that extra local flavor and taste as you tour Mexico.
