Munich and Berlin are Germany’s Olympic Cities with the Bavarian capital hosting the 1972 Summer Olympics. The Olympic Park is easily reached by metro from the city center and claims to be Europe’s biggest outdoor recreational area. Packed with roller bladders, cyclists and joggers the ’72 Games themselves are most (in)famous for the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches by Palestinians. There is a memorial to the 11 victims near the Olympic Stadium while you can also visit the stadium itself, take an elevator up the 390 meter high Olympic tower, check out the ice skating rink or the swimming pool where Mark Spitz, (arguably the greatest swimmer of all time) won 7 gold medals. At the moment, the site is also home to the BMW Museum whose world headquarters is on the edge of the Olympic Park.
