the leaning tower of pisa

by – Matt Vernick, Tour Manager, Europe

Pisa is a reasonably small university city in the northern reaches of Tuscany, Italy. Built on the banks of the Arno River, the city has been home to Galleleo Galleli among many others, but the city is known throughout the entire world for with one thing: The Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Almost unarguably the icon of Italy and one of the most recognisable structures on the entire planet, the Leaning Tower is the bell tower for the main church of Pisa and is visited my millions of people every year who flock to the square to see for themselves this bizarre and almost mythical structure.

Visiting Pisa isn’t a life-changing experience for most people, having said that, it’s very cool to be able to say that you’ve seen one of the most sights in the whole world and it’s loads of fun taking cheesy tourist photos of you or your friends holding up the tower.

Pisa is also one of the cheapest places for souvenirs in Italy.

You don’t need much time here to check out the Tower, take a few pics and perhaps do some shopping or maybe grab a great Italian gellato or espresso.
