Avenue Jean Medicin stretches north from Place Massena and the Old Town and is filled with retail stores including the multi-storied Nice-Etoile shopping mall. The side streets are a little quiet but also coming off Place Massena is Rue Massena, also a great place for some retail therapy.

Travel down to the Old Town of Nice is filled with a few tourist shops but in true French fashion the Old Town generally snubs the tourist stores in favor of small shops selling food, clothes, flowers and the like. Markets are often held daily in the Old Town and depending on the day, sell everything ranging from fresh fruit and fish to antiques and flowers.

Every morning, until about 10am, the north of the Old Town is host to ocean-fresh fish markets and is a great taste of life in Nice as chefs and locals alike converge to pick out the best produce for their days cooking.
