The city of Sioux Falls gets its name from a scenic waterfall that was frequented by American Indians in pre-colonial days. The falls themselves are not large in scale when comparing to Niagara, but what makes them so scenic are the unique rock formations in the area that have been eroded by the running water.

The park in which Sioux Falls is located is a great spot to relax after a driving day, or a fun spot to throw around a football. Looking beyond the falls and the city itself, the landscape continues to interest as the skyline has started to become flat. A few gentle hills on the predominantly flat horizon means you have entered the prairie lands of the US!

The region is exemplified by farmland and prairies that stretch for miles in all directions, peppered with farm houses that have stood for generations, and interrupted once in a while by small towns that turn into a blur on a classic American road trip.

Located in state more well known for Mount Rushmore and its Black Hills gold, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, serves as a perfect respite for weary travelers, especially if they are staying at the Contiki hotel!

Nightlife

Sioux Falls is quite a small town, with only a couple of sports bars in downtown, but some of the best action around is at the hotel, poolside. The Ramada Inn has an indoor water park, complete with a water polo court, hot tub and a gi-normous water slide. The tiki bar overlooks the pool and the video game arcade is right around the corner.

As you make your way down the highway towards Sioux Falls, and throughout the Mid-West of America, you’ll begin seeing billboards advertising water parks at each local hotel, so grab your bathing suit, and your floaties and get ready to be wet!
