It’s almost impossible to travel to Australia and not get at least a taste of the sports-loving vibe crated by so many of the inhabitants.
Depending on the time of year you can catch a game or cricket, A Sydney Swans Australian Rules Football or a huge array of Rugby League games. The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has gained world renown amongst both the gay and straight community alike and draws thousands of people to the city every February/March.
Sydney, along with Melbourne is one of Australia’s two Olympic Cities and many of the sites for the 2000 Games are still utilized by the city’s many sporting teams. Proclaimed by then IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch as being the ‘Greatest Games ever’ the Olympics left a cultural mark on the city that can still be felt and seen today.
Horse racing in Australia is as much about socializing, fashion and atmosphere as much as it is about the actual racing itself and Sydney boasts two of Australia’s premier race tracks in Rosehill and Randwick and a trip to the races is a truly Australian experience that any punter or party animal should not pass up.
