Italy is one of of the Mecca’s for European sports and any one who travels to the country will no doubt notice the extent to which the locals are attached to their sporting clubs, teams and events.
Football (soccer) is almost a religion to the Italians. Champions of the World most recently in 2006, the country is home to one of the strongest leagues in the world and hosts teams like AC Milan, Inter Milan, AS Roma, Juventus and Lazio.
Rugby is also a sport on the rise with the Italian National team competing in the 6 Nations and World Cup rugby tournaments.
Motor sport is also hugely popular with the Italian people. They are fiercely proud of the Ferrari Formula 1 racing team and arguably the greatest motorcycle rider or all time, Valentino Rossi (a.k.a ‘The Doctor’) hails from Urbino in northern Italy.
