While at Blue Ribbon Sports, he worked with Samuelson and runners Alberto Salazar, Mary Decker Slaney and Timberland women Carl Lewis to help to determine the best running shoes for each of them to wear in the 1984 Olympics, and found that some shoes were more efficient than others, and that even small changes can make a big difference.
