What to pack for travel to other parts of the world

The following is a suggested packing list for a tour in Egypt.

People are individuals though and often have personal preferences and opinions as to what to bring. The following then is not a definitive list, but should give you a good guide as to what you should pack for your Egyptian tour.

If you are travelling on the Egypt and the Nile tour a small piece of luggage is highly recommended as it makes storage on overnight trains, bus and boat rides much easier.

For the Ultimate European, a soft overnight style bag is best as you can leave the bulk of your main luggage in Athens.

Egypt is hot. On the Egypt and the Nile Tour and Ultimate European you are in Egypt for one week and as such, will not need to pack a lot of clothing.

For women, conservative clothing that covers you knees and shoulders (no halter neck or mid-riff tops, short shorts, etc) is not a must but is encouraged as it is respectful of the local culture. Even for men, long, light clothes are also recommended as they help protect you from the sun. Dressier but still light and comfortable clothes are also recommend for evening meals if that is you style.

Egypt is a desert and if you are travelling in the summer, you should pack for extremely hot weather during the day and cool evenings. Winter tempretures will be a little cooler and clothes that you can layer for warmth (if you need it) will be best.

There are overnight trains (basic twin room bunk beds) so again, comfortable clothes for travelling and sleeping overnight on a train are recommended.

Label your luggage inside and out with your name and your home address and perhaps attach a sticker, ribbon, patch or other unique identifier to your luggage to make it easier to spot.

Carry a copy of your passport, visas, travel and other important documents as well as your travellers cheque numbers (if you use them) with you in your luggage. You should also leave a copy of all this information at home with someone trusted and contactable while you are away.

Don’t pack your travel documents and passport in your luggage, rather take it with you in your carry luggage.

Remember to bring more than enough of any medication you might need along with you and carry prescriptions for any medications that you carry with you.

Laundry Facilities

As you will spend most of your time sightseeing and traveling, there is not a great deal of time for laundry even though most of the hotels offer laundry services.
