The Glockenspiel - Munich

Situated in the tower of the New Town Hall on the edge of the Marienplatz in the heart of Munich is the world famous Glockenspiel! At differing times during the summer and winter, the marionettes play out the wedding fest of King Wilhelm V followed by the ‘Dance of the Coopers’ to the hundreds gathered below.

Most people have had enough after the first 30 seconds but the hard core kings and queens of tacky tourism hang around the full 15 minutes until the small gold rooster at the top of the whole scene crows and flaps his wings to signify the end to this, one of the most over-hyped sites in the whole of Europe. If you enjoy the Glockenspeil you may also like to travel to St Goar to see the largest freestanding cuckoo clock in the world in or the Astrological Clock in Prague.
