The Grimaldi family are the ruling family of Principality of Monaco on the French Riviera. Having controlled ‘the rock’ that is Monaco on and off for over 700 years the family has never been too far from controversy. The family has seen, and continues to be at the centre of, more drama and scandal than a television soap opera.

The reputation that Monaco enjoys today, that of a haven for the rich and famous, owes almost everything to Prince Rainier III, the former Prince of Monaco. For all the building an initiatives Rainier that initiated in Monaco, he will be forever remembered for his wedding to Princess Grace of Monaco (formerly known as movie star Grace Kelly). Princess Grace was a friend and confidant of Princess Diana and was loved by the public much like Diana before her tragic death in a 1982 car accident.

The current Prince of Monaco is Prince Albert II who continues to live unmarried with no legitimate heir to the throne. His eldest sister Princess Caroline, although appearing to be reasonably level headed, is never far from the headlines. With her first marriage ending in divorce and the second with the death of her husband Stefano Casiraghi she is now married to the ever eccentric Prince Earnest of Hanover (Proclaimed as the richest man in Germany). Her eldest son, Andrea, is also never far for the tabloid spotlight.

Their youngest sister and and perhaps the most wild of them all is Princess Stephanie. Stephanie has tried her hand at fashion design and even pop stardom only to have it all come undone due to drugs and the media. She has been through a whole string of unsuccessful relationships ranging from the rich and famous to her ex-bodyguard, a Portuguese trapeze artist, a Swiss circus trainer to even palace servants and bartenders.

All this drama of the Grimaldis plays out against the backdrop of one richest most glamorous places on the planet: Monaco.
