<p>Warsaw is fast becoming one of Europe&#8217;s top destinations with its food, history and of course, the prices!</p> <p>The main attraction is the Old Town that was destroyed during World War II, but its restoration is testament to the resilience and determination of the Polish people.</p> <h2>The Old Town</h2> <p>The Old Town (Stare Miasto) was decimated and reduced to rubble during World War II but has today been rebuilt using the original materials and is now a <span class="caps">UNESCO</span> World Heritage site. There are plenty of spots to grab a perogie and the Market Square (is a great place to wander amongst the stalls, restaurants and cafes. From the square you can head to the Vistula River or see the old city walls.</p> <h2>Other sights</h2> <p>The Royal Way is a 4km (2.5 mile) stretch leading from Castle Square (Sigismund&#8217;s Column) to Lazienki. It is lined with shops and cafes as well as the Holy Cross Church, resting place of the great composer Chopin&#8217;s heart. His body lies in <a href="/contikipedia/articles/paris">Paris</a> (in <a href="/contikipedia/articles/pere-lachaise-cemetery">Pere Lachaise cemetery</a>) but his hear remains in <a href="/contikipedia/articles/poland">Poland</a>.</p> <p>A the end of the Royal Way is Lazienki Park, a massive urban park home to Chopin’s monument, the last Polish King&#8217;s summer palace, ponds, paths and some cafes. The park is a great place to chill out and is a favorite of the locals, particularly during weekends.</p> <p>The Palace of Culture and Science was given as a &#8216;gift&#8217; from Stalin and is the tallest structure in Poland standing even above the cities more modern business buildings. Today it is home to a cinema, theater, conference hall and a beer garden during summer. You can take the elevator to the 30th floor for great panoramic views of the city.</p> <h2>Shopping</h2> <p>The Galleria Shopping Center near the Palace of Culture and Science has lots of good retail shopping more shops can be found at Nowy Swiat.</p>
