Best experience of my life!

12 Jun 2016 - 24 Jun 2016

This was my first holiday to Europe and my first Contiki tour. This was the best 13 days of my life! Nothing compares to the beautiful crystal clear waters in Greece! The highlight of the trip was definitely Mykonos! We stayed on Paradise Beach one of the most well known beaches in Mykonos. the party life on the beach picks up at about 4pm and and does not stop until 6am. We could hear the music pumping from our room all day and all night long! There is no place like it! Aside from the party lifestyle there is so much to see and do in Mykonos. The Mykonos town is simply breathtaking, so beautiful! All of our accommodation was great everywhere we stayed for location, except for Santorini as we were too far away from the main town and it impacted our time spent there. I found that the included dinners on the tour were never as good as places you could find on your own. We asked locals for recommendations, you can't go wrong! I'd definitely recommend hiring a quad bike at some point in your trip when you have some free time, I hired one in Ios and spent the whole day on it exploring the island this was probably the best day on the tour! I did most of the extra activities and I highly recommend doing most of them so you can bond with the group and make the most of the tour. This tour was the perfect amount of time. At first I thought 13 days was too long to be on a contiki tour, however we spent at least 3 days in each place and it was perfect! We had at least one whole free day in each place which was fantastic to kick back and take everything in! Make sure you get yourself a Gyros or 10 in Greece nothing like it back at home oh and... beware of the Contiki Cough, it is definitely not a myth! You will not regret doing this tour it will be the best contiki tour you have ever done I promise you!

Contiki virgins no more...

06 Jul 2016 - 18 Jul 2016

Yiasou! (hello in Greek)

We are proud to annouce that we are no longer Contiki virgins because we just survived our first one to the gorgeous Greek islands! And... it was incredible!

So here's what you need to know:

1. Hotels- are nice, close to the beach and town area, but not a lot of time is spent here as you are too busy exploring, swimming or partying!

2. Food- yummy, cheap and addictive
#latenightgyros #ouzoshots #getready

3. Tour guides- we had Ed and Mike and they were the best! They always looked out for us and made sure we were up to date with tour info and feeling safe and comfortable. We hope you get them :)

4. Activities- definitely recommend the Greek taverna dinner with dancing in Athens, Santorini volcano tour and watersports in Ios!

5. Best moments- meeting new people, trying new Greek foods, swimming in the hot springs, Greek dancing, smashing plates, tanning and partying hard!

6. Final points- kick back, relax and enjoy because everything is organised and planned for you.
And most importantly, get your dancing shoes ready because it's a gonna be a big fat Greek party every night.

Its Was Hounestly The Best Time of My Life

07 May 2016 - 19 May 2016

This was my first Contiki trip and the best time of my life. It was everything I expected and a lot more.
It wasn't a very big group which helped everyone get to know each other and bond together. Our tour guide Karin was awesome and I don't think it would have been the same without her.
There is a lot of walking through little streets and through towns which helped me appreciate locations a lot more and you can get a better feeling of the atmosphere. We also caught a few ferries going from island to island (some of them are like cruise ships!!) which I think added a lot to the experience.
The hotels and accommodation are really nice and the one in santorimi is literally right next to the black sand beach which I will never forget.
The extras average around 50 euros each and you should do them all to get the most out of the trip but make sure you do the sunset in oia, its a moment youll never forget and is indescribably beautiful and the sailing spectacular you go on a pirate ship to a nice little beach and its a really great experience.
Going in may helped too because there weren't many tourists and I could appreciate the scenery a lot more. But i hounestly will never forget my time on the trip and enjoyed every single second of it.
Hounestly just book this tour, you really wont forget this for the rest of your life.

Best way to see Mykonos, Santorini, and Ios

19 May 2016 - 31 May 2016

This tour starts in Athens where you meet your group then head to the islands. You get to the islands via ferries which are very nice but can be uncomfortable for the 5 hour ride to Mykonos and On the way back from IOS so be prepared with headphones or reading materials. Mykonos is beautiful but windy, it's called the island of the winds so prepare for that. The "beach" hopping optional wasn't so much beach hopping as it was chillin on the boat then going to one beach but it's well worth it because the water is crystal clear and bright blue. All of the islands are great for partying with IOS probably being the best. Keep in mind people party hard on this trip and get sick and pass it on to you so be prepared with your vitamin C. You won't be prepared for the beauty of Santorini, you've never seen anything like it. The views are breath taking. iOS is gorgeous with some of the bluest waters you've seen. Make sure to do the private beach cruise there, they take you on a pirate ship to a private beach where you will see some of the most beautiful water. Overall the food was good throughout the trip. I'm a vegetarian and went in with low expectations but Greek food is very fresh and was good for the most part. If you can bring a towel with u do it. All of the hotels give you tiny towels that take forever to dry. I went on my honeymoon and had a great time but if you are going single and going to party it's probably more fun.

Fantastic Adventure!

07 May 2016 - 19 May 2016

I would definitely recommend Contiki's Greek Island Hopping trip to anyone who is looking to explore Greece in an activity-packed yet laid back way! Our trip leader Karin did such an amazing job of making us feel like every detail was taken care of from the hotel bookings to the private meals and excursions to the travel logistics. This allowed us to really enjoy our vacation and take in the sights without worry.

Although most of the other travelers in the group had booked the trip with friends, I felt totally comfortable being a solo traveler with Contiki. The attitude of the group was welcoming and there were so many activities that made it easy to make new friends. Our trip leader, Karin, did a great job of ensuring everyone felt included.

I would recommend choosing to do as many of the ME Time Optional activities as possible. They don't cost too much extra money and they truly allow you to take advantage of being in Greece and get a taste for its culture and landscape. My favorites included the Athens Affair and Farewell to the Greek Islands dinners as well as the Santorini Highlights day!

This trip also allows for plenty of free time/down time to explore at your own pace, nap or just hang out with your friends. The pace of this trip was perfect for someone looking to relax and just get away from the monotony of everyday life!

Overall, I was happy with the trip's accommodations. Except for our hotel in Santorini, I felt I was truly getting value for my money. Hotels in Greece are funkier than the hotels you might be used to, but the proximity to the beach make up for less than functional plumbing and older facilities.

Taking a trip with Contiki allows you to experience so much more than you would traveling on your own and takes much of the stress out of travel. Contiki booked all the ferries and hotels and took care of many of our meals. They also arranged a wide range of activities for us from private tours and entertainment to picnics and transportation to volcanoes, donkey rides, and warm springs on deserted islands.

Another plus of traveling with Contiki is that there are plenty of opportunities to party. Our group stayed out drinking and dancing early into the morning on many occasions! If this is your thing, you will not be disappointed. If it's not, there are always opportunities for you to go back to your hotel early or choose not to drink.

As a bit of a nerd, I would have liked to learn more about the historical context of the islands we visited. But Contiki certainly doesn't market itself as an educational tour company, so the lack of the historical information didn't surprise me.

All in all, I would recommend Contiki Greek Island Hopping because it makes discovering Greece easy and fun. Traveling with Contiki is a great way to make new friends and truly get to experience it all!

Grecian Awesomeness

31 Aug 2015 - 12 Sep 2015

Having never been to Greece or its many islands before, i thought this trip would be an awesome way to see and experience the best of its different islands.
I went in September and the hot weather was just what i was hoping for after a poor summer in the UK.

I'm abit of a geek when it comes too Greek mythology and history so Athens as a starting point was perfect and it was great to see temples like the Parthenon.
Santorini was beautiful and you should ride the local Donkeys if you havnt before, its an experience.
Mykonos was great for partying and i recommend doing the trip to Delos. Ios again was great for partying and although its not recommended by the tour manager, rent a quad for the day and check out Ios. Just be safe and not an idiot!

You get a few free days to relax and do your own thing on the tour which appealed to me, beaches with clear waters and plenty to amuse yourself was spot on!

All the highlights of the Greek Islands

01 May 2014 - 13 May 2014

This was a great introduction to the islands of Greece from the beauty in Santorini to the partying and beaches of Mykonos and Ios.

I went during May on one of the first tours of the season and while it wasn't super hot yet the weather was pleasant the entire time. This month of the year meant a quieter time for Mykonos' Paradise Beach and on Ios we didn't have to battle any crowds either.

I was lucky enough to have a fantastic bunch of people and there was only about 25 of us with everyone getting along so well from day one we really didn't mind the lack of other tourists at all!

The Scandinavian Club opened for the summer while we were in Mykonos and was already crowded on its first night so I can't imagine how busy it must be during Jun-Jul! Another bonus of going in shoulder season though was getting hotel upgrades - my room mate and I even got sea views and a patio. All the accommodation on this tour was in fact, really good.

Ed was a great tour leader who is both informative and entertaining. Starting with the country's historic past in Athens, this tour is a wonderful way to enjoy the laid back lifestyle, food and culture of the Greeks.

I didn't wanna come back!

09 Sep 2015 - 21 Sep 2015

I had never travelled solo before. Hence, I was very iffy about taking this trip. I mean.. a new country, that is going through a financial crisis, and to top it all, I didn't know the language.. it was very nerve-wracking. But, I have to say that it was one of the best trips of my life. Greece was a dream, and I ended up booking one week before I left. I had an amazing tour manager, and the rest of the group was great as well. Greece is so beautiful. I didn't want it to end. I was crying during the last two days, wishing we could go to atleast one more island. Anyways, I do hope to go back and I recommend this trip to everyone! Don't even think about it.. just do it! You will not regret it!

Great Trip but choose the time you go wisely

28 Aug 2015 - 09 Sep 2015

The trip is great and pretty well balanced between sight-seeing and parting but what they dont tell you in the information sheet is how quickly the Greek islands' nightlife dies as soon as September starts. So if you want a more party packed holiday then make sure your entire trip is before the end of August. However if you want a more relaxed and chilled holiday with slight partying then go early September - the weather is still great, the beaches are less crowded and it is more chilled.

Santorini (the 2nd island of this trip) is absolutely amazing so seeing it will make the trip worth it at almost any time.
