European Magic (Winter)

An absolute must

09 Jan 2016 - 17 Jan 2016

I decided to do a European contiki last minute, after I had finished 2 weeks studying in Rome. It was my first time ever travelling, but i figured, im already in Europe, why not? Best decision of my life. 8 months later and I am still dreaming of everything I did. Our leader and driver were fun, full of information. The trips on the bus were long, but it was definitely worth it. I made friends instantly- most fellow travellers were from Australia (like me!), America and a few from South Africa. It was amazing learning and teasing each others cultures and accents. Best of all, we all knew how to party. Despite our 6/7am wakeups, we partied until late. Everyone looked out for each other. I experienced so much in a short time, and am already planning my next contiki. Great, great option for people travelling solo or even in pairs. There was never a dull moment on contiki. It was the best decision of my life.

The Best trip ever! Life changing!!

06 Dec 2014 - 14 Dec 2014

Okay so its taken me 1 year to write this review.
Ever since I finished this tour I have been planning the next one. If your looking for an awesome fast paced trip choose this one.

I met so many amazing friends that I still keep in contact with today and actually planning to meet up with this Christmas.

As for the trip there was so many beautiful sights and so many awesome parties. Every single night we just partied hard and everyday took in the sights while traveling to our next location and exploring once we got there.

I recommend doing every extra me time activity and leave at least 1 week open at the end of the tour so you can keep the party going with the awesome guys and girls you will meet that are still around London or Paris or even Amsterdam(its not hard to get back).

Even tho the tour is short you still make the best friends and its super sad to say goodbye at the end.

Definitely no Regrets! and my next tour I do will be much longer as you never wanna leave!

Happy travels people look forward to meeting you all on the next tour!! :)

European Magic in December

19 Dec 2015 - 27 Dec 2015

This tour was nice in the sense that it covers numerous destinations in a very short time and is ideal for someone who wants to follow a quantity rather than quality approach when seeing Europe. The tour manager was a friendly person and contributed towards a great atmosphere on the tour. Most cities are seen at night as most of the day light is spent in the bus (6-8 hours) at a time. The hotels are not great at all and I picked up bed bugs on my first or second night (difficult to pin point). I had no means to take my clothes to the Laundromat as the hotels did not have this facility and we were not at one place/city long enough to give in the "affected" laundry given the general turnaround time of the laundry services (24 or more hours). The tour manager was not very sympathetic to my situation and did not do anything to go out of his way to help me get the bed bugs out of my clothes - I had to make a decision to not wear any of my clothes for the rest of the tour and I was forced to spent quite a bit of money to get new clothes for the remainder of the tour, as I did not want to take the risk of getting more bites as it burns and itches and is generally gross. I am not sure I would recommend Contiki to friends as the hotels are just not good enough due to it being unhygienic. However if you are not too concerned about hygiene and cleanliness and are lucky enough not to get bed bugs, I would suggest you try this tour as it is a very affordable way of travelling through Europe and a chance to meet new friends. It is a shame that my experience was ruined by something so small as a bed bug and that Contiki did not do much to help me. On the other hand, if you read the reviews of most of the hotels on either TripAdvisor or Booking.com you will notice that there are many complaints about bed bugs at the various hotels Contiki uses and the cleanliness is normally rather 5 or 6 out of 10 - so it should have been expected that someone would get bitten - unfortunately that was me.

One word: Unforgettable

17 Oct 2014 - 26 Oct 2014

I could go on and on forever about how awesome this tour was, but I don't want to ramble. In case you're on the fence about this: I read countless online reviews of different tour companies, since it is a big investment, and I read mixed reviews about Contiki. I will tell you, my trip was incredible. My tour guide was on top of her game and knew a LOT about European history and what to do in certain situations, etiquette, etc. (I'm from the USA). The people I met were amazing, I'll never forget them. Here's another thing I'll clear up: I was 26 when I went on the tour, I was worried i'd be surrounded by a bunch of immature 18 year olds. There were people spanning the entire Contiki age range from 18 right up to 35. If you're not a huge partier, don't worry. You can literally make this trip into whatever you want...if you want to club every night, you can. If you want to relax after a day of touring, you can do that too. We had pretty serious partiers, and we also had serious Christians if that tells you anything about the "party" level. You can do whatever you want, there's something for everyone. If you're a snob, and want only the fanciest food and hotels, maybe you should look at a different company. I was happy with the food and accommodations, but we had a few people on our tour who scoffed at some things. Not my style though...who spends that much time in the hotel anyway? To sum up: I haven't been paid by Contiki or anything, and I'd say GO FOR IT! This trip/company is awesome. I'm currently on here planning my next trip.

The Most Incredible People on the Most Incredible Trip

29 Dec 2014 - 07 Jan 2015

First and foremost, plan on doing ALL of the optional ME Time activities. Contiki does a wonderful job of picking out experiences that are authentic to each area visited that also help support the local economy. There wasn't a single activity that I regret doing and I'm beyond thrilled I participated in everything. It's a great way to bond with the rest of the travelers on the trip too.

Be prepared for this tour, it's a fast-paced trip. Be sure to take advantage of every second you spend in each city. Your tour guide will have tips and hints as to what to visit whether you're interested in shopping, food, architecture or museums. Our tour guide Nick was spot-on with every suggestion he made. The best recommendation was to go to the Suso Gelato place in Venice. HOLY MOLY BEST GELATO EVER CONSUMED!!

Be sure to bring a bag that you can pack for one-night stays in some of the hotels. The place in Rhine Valley didn't have an elevator, so it was helpful to be able to pack a small bag to lug up the stairs.

When you have free time in the cities, try to go off the beaten path to find more authentic food places. The prices tend to be more reasonable as well and you never know who you might run into. A friend and I met the sweetest children's fashion designer when we hopped off the beaten path in Paris. It was wonderful to hear her story and how she got to where she is in life.

Bring a nice outfit or two. Everyone in our grouped dressed up to go to Le Moulin Rouge on our last night of the tour. It was weird seeing people outside of the normal jeans and jackets that night haha.

I loved meeting all of the people in our tour group. We've stayed in touch since the trip (6 months ago at this point) and we're trying to plan a trip that we can all go on again! That truly is one of the greatest take aways from the Contiki trip, the invaluable and lasting friendships that were formed with people from all over the world. All and all, one helluva trip and can't wait for the next Contiki adventure!

Magical!

13 Mar 2015 - 22 Mar 2015

If you never been to Europe before this is the best introduction tour to everything you will want to experience. It gives you a taste of what Europe has to offer in a decent amount of time. Some say that a 10 day tour is too short, but it was the perfect amount of time for me as I couldn't take more than 2 weeks off from work. I would highly recommended this tour for first time travelers to this area who don't have their heart set on one specific country.

Accommodations, transport, food, optionals and the Contiki crew exceeded my expectations 150%! Taking a Contiki tour really eliminates of the stresses of travel, they take care of all the stuff you don't want to deal with while on vacation so you can focus on having FUN! Plus you are traveling with 50 other like-minded people who want to have the same experience you do, so its very easy to make friends fast, so don't worry if you are traveling solo like I did.

I just got back home and I am already planning where I want to go on my second Contiki. Trust me, if you book this tour or any other Contiki tour you will have "#noregrets". Also if you get Megs as your Tour Manager or OJ as your driver you are in for a real treat! I couldn't imagine doing this tour without these two! They were both AMAZING!!!

Do It!! Do It!!

24 Jan 2015 - 01 Feb 2015

What can I say, i heard the hype about contiki's from all my friends at home who had travelled before me and it definitely lived up to it. This trip was amazing and I met some awesome people as well.

The one downside to the whole thing (hard to even really think of one) was the amount of time spent in the bus. This however, did allow for bonding with the team and for some awesome sight seeing.

Definitely take this trip if you are keen to see the highlights of the cities included. You get enough time to see them (but not too much else) before you are on the road again. Would do again, and again and again :)

Eurotrip! Magic! :)

01 Nov 2014 - 09 Nov 2014

This was my first contiki tour and I will definitely be booking another one soon!
First thing I was reluctant at first to do this alone but majority of everyone on this tour travelled alone or in couples , and such a mix of people it is so easy to make friends even on the 1st day !
Jon and Jonny, our tour guide and bus driver were amazing at making this trip unforgettable :D from hard partying in 'amsterdamage' as they called it, huge stein beers in the Hofbrauhaus in Munich, wet gondola rides in a very rainy Venice, beautiful scenic snowy mountains in Switzerland and touring the lovely city of Paris this trip had so much to offer in 9 days, hell it was tiring but so fun !:D

Definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a first taste of Europe !

Highlights -
booze cruise accross the dam !
stop off in Innsbruck Austria
Meal in Venice , lots of food, musician and limoncello!

thanks contiki :D xxx

Absolutely Fantastic!

30 Dec 2014 - 07 Jan 2015

This tour is great for people that want to see a lot in a short period of time. I can't believe how much we managed to do in only 9 days! The optional activities were all excellent and decently priced, definitely worth doing the lot. After all you are there to see Europe! Accommodation is good, but to be honest you are so tired at the end of each day it doesn't matter as long as it's clean! Food was to die for!! Definitely try the pork knuckle in Munich :) I would definitely recommend doing this tour, you meet some incredible people along the way and see some amazing sites. Great for first time Contiki goers!
