For real. Do this tour. My tour guide won tour guide of the year, so I am sure I had an exceptional experience due to that... but holy hell, one of my most favorite experiences to date. My only regret is that I didn't do the full NZ tour (you will join up with this tour with another group that has already been traveling in the north). So while our group definitely bonded as a whole, there were definitely two groups b/c all those just doing the south had formed a little bond before we got picked up by the northerners. Nonetheless, this trip is phenom. LOVED Queenstown and that we got to spend 4 full days there. Do every adventure thing you can in every city you can. You won't get those opps every day!

Before I start this review, I want to let you know that you should definitely extend your trip and do The Big Tiki. I booked the Northern Choice and Sweet as South (reverse) trips that make up the Big Tiki and wouldn't look back.
Living in Australia, I was worried that this trip would be too similar to home and I was completely wrong. New Zealand's landscape is absolutely breathtaking. Not only do you travel to the major cities, you get to stop in some of the smallest towns along the way, which was a highlight for me.
I would recommend doing as many optional extras that you can. It's an adrenaline based country and the best way to get over any fears that you may have. You also learn a lot about the Maori culture and their way of life. Everyone is lovely.
The hotels and food provided were fine and a few of them had spectacular views.
Soap our guide and Pat our bus driver were the perfect team. There were no issues along the way and they helped us make the most of the journey. The trip was full of #goodtimes and a lot of firsts, #justsayin
I could go on about how amazing this trip was, but if you're interested, check out a video I made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7oQkjaheWc
My advice would be to definitely travel to New Zealand. It might end up being an expensive trip due to all the extra activities, but you may not ever get the chance to do this again, so make the most of it.

Absolutely loved this trip. Photos definitely don't do New Zealand justice. Weather at Franz Josef is a little unpredictable and can be rainy/foggy. We weren't able to do the helicopter/hike options as a result, but many of us did the kayaking instead and spent the rest of the day relaxing.
Loved the Canyon Swing in Queenstown, absolute highlight. I highly recommend doing multiple jumps if you have the option! I did the K-Bridge Bungy Jump, which was a fun experience as well.
The accommodations in Lake Ohau are rad! Toga party and a hot tub. There's a lounge area by a fireplace as well. Too many cool places to cover 'em all!

I booked this trip as a spur of the moment thing about a week before it kicked off, and wow... one of my better life decisions.
The South Island of New Zealand is one unbelievable place. Whereever you go the scenery is amazing, as are the people. Queenstown is a must go place for any traveller, it nearly destroyed me, it's so none stop! From partying in the awesome nightlife, and backing it up with a sneaky skydive or snowboard this place had it all.
Our tour manager 'T' was an absolute legend as was our bus driver Olly. These two lads made the trip what is was.
I only wish I had done the North Island too! ... next time!! The people I met and the friends I made is what defined this trip. Highly reccomended, I'll be back New Zealand.

I have done the south island NZ previously via my own road trip so went in thinking ok I have seen a lot of the scenery is this worth it, but the experience just was so much more than I could have expected + more. Every time I come to NZ I always see such beautiful country side and have a relaxing holiday and with Contiki I have come home with amazing new friends around the world and have done things I thought I was too scared to do.
I got to canyon swing and jump of a cliff paragliding, walk on a glacier, dress up in a sheet at a toga party and the list goes on. The motto on our tour was YOLO, a phrase I used to not dig but now after the experience I understand the phrase and am living it. The tour I did joined on to a previously started Big Tiki tour but you just need to get in there and talk to people and join in as everyone was the same way when they started.
I can now tick the North & South Island Contiki's off my bucket list. Thanks to Isobel & Pumba for an amazing adventure on Sweet As Reverse :)
