We take you you down under to explore the best parts of Australia
1 Swim with the fishies
With an estimated 1500 species of fish, 30 species of dolphins and whales and 360 species of coral, there's no place more breathtaking to swim than the Great Barrier Reef. Contiki offers an awesome optional on a number of their trips down under, taking travellers on a cruise to the Great Barrier Reef, where they'll enjoy lunch onboard the boat, then dive into the crystal clear waters to snorkel or scuba dive. Pick up a GoPro waterproof video camera before you dive though, with HD capabilities that are perfect for documenting all the ocean life you see along the way.
2 Adventure into the outback
A journey into the Australian outback is an adventure like no other, with epic views of sprawling landscapes and everything from rugged canyons to lush forests. With more than 90% of Australians living along the coast, the northern inland is a vast, remote area where you can take a moment to enjoy nature and also take advantage of all the awesome adventure activities available. On Contiki's 11-day Outback Adventure there are tons of cool optionals like a dawn hot air balloon flight over the desert, a camel ride through an outback station and a helicopter flight over Uluru.
3 Bask on the beaches
No one will believe that you went to Australia without a hint of a golden glow, so soak up the sunshine on one of Australia's many beautiful beaches (but let's be smart and throw some SPF on there, too). Check out Bondi Beach, where sun worshippers and surfers alike go to catch a ray and a wave, and where you can grab a bite to eat at one of the many cool restaurants, people watching with a cool drink in your hand.
4 Thrill seek in the surf
With a coastline extending around the entire country, Australia has some of the best waves in the world. Head up the east coast to Byron's Bay, home to not only one of the best surf spots in the country, but also to a chill, laid-back lifestyle and a ton of other surf fans lining the beach. For one of the most popular surf locations in Aus, check out Bells Beach in Victoria, which has a massive swell perfect for the more experienced on the board. And if your knees are wobbly at the thought of surfing, no worries - Contiki includes a surf lesson in Coff's Harbour on a number of their trips.
5 Enjoy the rush of the city life
It's not just the outback and beaches of Australia that offer all the excitement -- the city life can get your motor runnin' too. In Sydney, you'll get the option to climb the famous Harbour Bridge, sitting at 440 ft. high! Animal lovers definitely need to check out the Sydney Taronga Zoo and can get up-close-and-personal with the koalas and kangaroos if they opt for the Animal Tour and Sky Safari. Hopping aboard a Sky Safari gondola, they'll zip right into the park, over the rainforest and explore the zoo with one of the keepers.
