5 Things You've Just Gotta Do: Europe Winter Edition
Our favourite Winter time hit list
It's big, it's bold and there's a heap to see. Get the most out of your trip to Europe with our Top 5 for the continent this Winter and leave with #NOREGRETS
1) Get your fill of Parisian culture
Whether you’re after art and architecture or shopping and nightlife, Paris has the perfect thing for you. From the incredible views of Paris at the Eiffel Tower, to the amazing art at the Louvre you’re sure to have a #NOREGRETs moment in no time at all.
Or if shopping and nightlife is more your thing, head to the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Paris’ most famous shopping strip, and visit the boutique stores before sipping a café latte movie star style outside a café and letting the world pass by. And as the night draws in, head over to the infamous area of Pigalle and indulge in a visit to the Moulin Rouge (well as you’re here why not?!).
2) Pub hop the night away in Britain
Ah yes. If there's one thing that Britain does VERY well, it's pubs. The perfect place to head to with a few pals for some pints and a plate of fish & chips, the pub can offer a warm retreat from rainy weather or be the go-to place for a big night out. In Edinburgh, check out The Bow Bar, a classic-style pub located just below the castle with one of the city's best selections of beers and whisky. And when you're sightseeing in London, make sure you pop by Carnaby Street, a pedestrianized shopping district that really comes to life when the after-work crowd spills out of the pubs and onto the streets with their pints and food.
3) Get your history fill at the Berlin Wall
Germany is a country rich with history and there are plenty of museums and monuments throughout the major cities for you to visit. However, nothing holds more significance of internal strife, than that of the fallen Berlin Wall. A symbol of separatism between the east and west, the wall was torn down by the government in 1989 after an uprising of citizens opposed the division that had been erected in the dead of night in post-war Germany. As one of the most significant celebrations the country has seen, visitors to Berlin can still check out the wall and visit The Mauermuseum for more history and to learn about Checkpoint Charlie.
4) Hit the slopes in Switzerland
Skiiers and snowboarders from all corners of the earth flock to Switzerland yearly to hit the slopes of their famed Alps. On Contiki’s 26-day Winter Wanderer, you’ll spend two nights in Lucerne and have plenty of free time to strap on your board and skis and breathe in the fresh alpine air. Or, if you’re anything like me, you’ll head halfway up the mountain and hang out in the chalet beside a roaring fire, sipping on a Swiss hot chocolate.
5) Jump on two wheels and explore Amsterdam
Famous for land as flat as a pancake, you’ll see locals and tourists on two wheels anywhere and everywhere you go in Amsterdam come rain or shine! One of the essential Amsterdam experiences, cycling is the perfect way to see all this amazing country has to offer, whether you want to cruise along the canals, head to one of the famous museums to get your history fill, find a market to browse, or head to an infamous coffee shop!
