The sights, the sounds, the smells; let South East Asia bring your senses to life!
1) Sail Halong Bay in a Junk Boat
Known locally as where ‘The Dragon Descends into the Sea’, Halong Bay is a work of art. Thousands of limestone monoliths rise out of the sea, creating the appearance of many dragons snoozing under the water. Sailing round this marvel, named as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World, in a traditional junk boat is both breathtakingly romantic, and silly amounts of fun… did someone say ‘floating bar’?
All over SE Asia you will find top quality street food; the kind of stuff that will have you drooling like a fool as you push through the throngs of eager customers. Don’t be misled by the cheap plastic seats or laminate table covers, the priority here is flavour, and boy is it packed with flavour. From a steaming bowl of Pho in Hanoi, to the infamous Pad Thai in Bangkok - simply look for where the locals are flocking and you’ll never go wrong.
We’re not talking Niagara Falls here. These waterfalls are about chilling out, swimming and having a good time. In Laos it is THE place to hang out, have a few beers (or cure a hangover), and mix with backpackers that flock here for some ‘downtime’. Think rope-swings, bamboo bars and crystal clear water – pretty sweet!
Hoi An is a shopper’s paradise. Simply rock up with a picture of any outfit you want, get measured up, choose your material and in 24 hours, that little D&G number you’ve been eyeing up all year is yours, at a ridiculously bargain price! Outside of that Hoi An is quant, cobbled, and packed with restaurants serving the most delicious traditional Vietnamese dishes. Kick back on a café veranda with an Iced Coffee, a Vietnamese baguette and just watch the world go by.
Remember the Leonardo DiCaprio movie, 'The Beach'? Looks like paradise, right? Well, that shizz is real, so pack your bags and hit up Contiki's Thai Island Hopper West to visit the breathtaking island of Koh Phi Phi. Stretch out on the beach to relax and get a golden glow then sit back and watch the fire twirlers at night.
