A Tour Managers Top 5 to Costa Rica

Top tips from the people who eat, sleep and breathe the Pura Vida lifestyle

The best place to go dancing:

San Jose Castros bar – The perfect blend of electronic music meets traditional Latin jams, spread across several rooms and full of people who just want to party!

The one thing you should do when in Costa Rica:

Visit Poas volcano – It’s considered one of the most breath taking sites in the entire country and has erupted an incredible 39 times since 1828, making it one of the most active volcanoes in the whole of Costa Rica.

The best coffee in Costa Rica:

Tarrazú - best area for the best coffee, hands down. You’ll never taste coffee beans like it!

Your favourite Costa Rican food:

Imperial beer (does that count?!). Sweet/fried Plantains with melted cheese are out of this world - it's called platano con queso and satisfies every type of hunger pain!

The best thing to photograph:

You can’t really beat a nice sunset on the pacific, ideally from the deck of a catamaran with the aforementioned Imperial Beer. Moments like that make me think I have the best job in the world!

PLUS the big question on every Costa Rican lovers lips:

Green or leatherback turtles:

Leatherback turtles 100%. Actually spotting them is so rare – they’re in massive decline and desperately need to be protected so any sighting of these rare creatures is an incredible experience.
