Crave

Anchor and Hope, London

Pub Grub near Waterloo.

Most people would say that all a good pub needs is a spot to sit and somebody to pull a good beer. The Anchor and Hope disagree, take it one step further and absolutely nail pub grub.

Located near Waterloo Station, this place is almost always busy – especially on Fridays and Saturdays – so beware of the pub’s ‘no bookings’ policy. You might have to wait, but you can wait at the bar.

The bustling dining room is great for a group meal and we suggest trying (if you’re not vegetarian and if you’re kind of brave) the whole saddle of hare. Get it with a side of fries and maybe start with a potato soup. Then, if there’s room in your little belly, the dessert list will not disappoint: it’s full of comfort-food style treats.

If you’re looking to laze around for a few hours, keep in mind that the people waiting for your table will make you feel like you better hot-foot it out of there. But it’s worth it.

Anchor and Hope is at 36 The Cut, London.
