Super-respected and very talented photographer Ari Marcopoulos is a big deal.
Born in the Netherlands, Marcopoulos moved to New York City in one of the city’s most exciting eras: the 1980s. Even more exciting, he became Andy Warhol’s assistant and befriended the likes of Keith Haring, Peter Halley and Jean-Michael Basquiat.
Marcopoulos captured images of the city that really represented its mood and its living, breathing energy. He also worked with some of the biggest names in hip hop music; Run DMC, Public Enemy, and most extensively, with the Beastie Boys.
Marcopoulos is currently exhibiting a solo show of new work called Wherever You Go at Malborough Chelsea in New York.
Malborough Chelsea is at 545 West 25th Street, New York.
