High-fashion meets high-culture in Mitte, Berlin’s most central district. Trendy cafes and galleries rub shoulders with stylish shops brimming with the latest Berlin trends, from big brands through to smaller independent labels.
Head into the heart of Mitte, and you’ll find Atelier Akeef, Berlin’s first and only high end menswear boutique dedicated entirely to sustainable fashion. Co-founded by Michael Ashley and Alan Sommerville, the store in itself is an interior design master-class, created using upcycled wood, sustainable clay and non-toxic colorants, a true representation of Atelier Akeef’s eco-friendly principles and no fuss style.
Redefining the idea of sustainable fashion, Atelier Akeef’s products are both incredibly wearable and undeniably cool. Stocking brands such as Elvis and Kresse (who produce bags, belts and wallets made from recycled hoses from the London Fire Brigade) and Kings of Indigo (strong quality denim basics made from GOTS-certified organic cotton and recycled yarn), each product has a story to tell, and shoppers can be safe in the knowledge that what they are buying has been sourced sustainably and fairly.
Co-owner Michael Ashley explains the stores mantra “We believe that one shouldn't compromise on their style, but neither on their morals” and we couldn't agree more. Atelier Akeef is not only forward thinking in both it’s ethos and products, it’s also an entirely different shopping experience.
