Spotted at Cafe Gitane: Sam Rockwell, Chloe Sevigny. (We're sure there are plenty more, but you get the idea.)
But Cafe Gitane in New York's SoHo isn't like Hollywood's The Ivy. It's not saturated in paparazzi and/or attitude, instead it's a place that you can get a good coffee (ignore the "Americans don't know anything about coffee" story) and really delicious food.
Open for breakfast through dinner, Gitane is a sunny, French-vibed place where the waiters and waitresses have really adorable uniforms. But that ain't all. This place makes the best avocado on toast in the universe, probably. It's three parts avocado, one part grainy bread, with plenty of chilli flakes, salt and lemon. There's also a dish that seems to be pretty famous – a tower of cous-cous that resembles a fez. It's chock-a-block full of good stuff and you will be full for days.
Cafe Gitane is bright and airy in the summertime and pretty cosy when the weather gets cooler. Just mind you don't spill your coffee on Sam Rockwell's script. He does not like that.
