Celebrate Brooklyn!

NYC’s free summer festival...

Celebrate-brooklyn_full_for_exchange

If you’re lucky enough to be in New York this summer then Celebrate Brooklyn! is a must for the diary. Celebrate Brooklyn is New York city’s longest running, free outdoor performing arts festival and is like nothing you’ve ever experienced before.

The festival takes place in Prospect Park and was started up by not-for-profit organisation BRIC to revitalise the park, we’re suckers for a good cause. Now in its 34th year, the festival is bigger and better than ever and this year is set to showcase acts across music, film, theatre and dance. Celebrate Brooklyn! Attracts crowds up wards of 250,000 and with an awesome 2012 line up featuring acts from around the world, you can expect that they Prospect Park will once again be packed over June, July and August – oh, did we mention it goes for three months?! Yup, how fricken cool is that!

The line up is jampacked with awesome acts but we’re most excited about checking out Philip Glass, TV on the Radio, Buena Vista Social Club and Hot Chip, to name just a few. The dance line up has also got our attention and we’re loving the sound of soul pioneer ‘Booker T. Jones’, Brazillian-fusion group ‘Nation Beat’ and Zydeco sensation ‘Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience’. These guys will perform at the Celebrate Brooklyn! Bridge Dance Parties which will also feature DJs, dance lessons, free valet bike parking and food trucks, all with sweeping views of the city! Check out this awesome video of the Dance Party to really get you excited!

The festival is kicking off on June 5th (rain or shine) and to celebrations are kicking off with a dance party featuring ‘Deadly Dragon Sound System’. ‘Deadly Sound System’ is a well-respected force in the reggae community nationwide and will spinning some awesome tracks that will be sure to get you in the mood.
