City and Colour

The perfect backdrop for your travels...

Guitar_man_full_for_exchange

The travel plans are in full swing, your saving strategy has gone into over drive and all you need now is the soundtrack for your adventure. Introducing... City and Colour.

City and Colour is the recording alias for Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green (City – Dallas, Colour – Green, love him already right?) His voice is unmistakable and his music has been described as a ‘fusion of folk, blues, rock, and twangs of country’...perfect for kicking back to while on the road.

Already renowned across Canada due to the success of the first two full-length albums, City and Colour launched its third album in June 2011, ‘Little Hell’, which received rave reviews worldwide. When speaking about the new album Green said ‘I’m just always aiming to become a better player and a better songwriter, and this is the culmination of that at this point in time. I’m very proud of it, and that’s what’s most important to me.’ ‘Little Hell’ was produced by Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, At The Drive-In) and was recorded at a converted church in Ontario - Catherine North Studios, which Green described as “a beautiful place to make music.” What’s more, the release was recorded and mixed on tape, a technique which proved taxing for Green but as you’ll hear, was definitely worth his trouble!

All three albums are great and some of our fave tracks include; ‘Save the Scissors’, ‘The Girl’ and ‘Northern Winds’, all chilled back tunes focusing on the subjects of love, life and change. ‘Comin’ Home’ is a particularly fitting song for travellers as it touches on all the place the artist has and hasn’t visited in his quest to be with the one he loves. Green’s incredible voice, supported by beautiful instrumentals and well thought lyrics, make for the perfect listening whilst trekking across countries, lazing at the beach or even reflecting on your travels.

If listening to the recorded sounds of City and Colour isn’t enough, then you’ll be stoked to hear that it has just been added to the Catalpa line up! Catalpa is a wicked music festival on Randall’s Island, NYC, taking place on July 28th – 29th. So, if you find yourself in the Big Apple and fancy catching City and Colour live, along with The Black Keys, Snoop Dog and TV On The Radio, then make sure you get your butt over there!!
