The ‘70s began where the 60s left off. By the early ‘70s Contiki had more than 50 minibuses across Europe, and our travellers were exploring the world in serious disco style.
In ‘74, we updated our minibuses, and started to use our famous Mercedes Benz coaches which were famously painted fluro yellow with our new winking sun logo. We were the cream of the crop and everyone stopped and stared when our luxe rides pulled through major cities and down dusty highways. Contiki had something to say, we were here to stay!
While we still loved the adventure of camping, in the ‘70s we were the first to introduce travelling in a little style – introducing our ‘concept tours’ and year-round hotel tours to cater for those who like a little luxury. Sometimes after a long day of exploring, you just wanna relax in style – especially if you've been walking around in platform shoes all day. We also went global & expanded out of Europe, with tours to Russia, India, Mexico & even safaris in Africa.
Check out these sweet looks from our travellers in the ‘70s. Have you ever seen such style?
You’ll be in the draw to WIN a 9 day New Zealand Contiki Sweet As South trip. Plus, come back tomorrow for our article on Contiki in the ‘80s for another chance to win.
