Giant fish sculptures in Rio

Art for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development.

Fishsculptures-detail_full_for_exchange

Art for art’s sake is a wonderful thing. But art for a good cause? Sometimes even better.

As part of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (aka Rio+20) in Rio, there are currently some pretty epic sculptures on display.

These giant fish sculptures on Botafogo beach in Rio de Janeiro were made from discarded plastic bottles but look anything but rubbish. Not only do they look perfect against a backdrop of ocean and blue skies, at night these scaly creatures are lit up in a pretty majestic fashion.

There’s not a lot more to say about these lovely artworks, except that if you’re lucky enough to be in Rio we have two things to say:

1. Please go see them. 2. We kind of hate you. Lucky duck.
