Handle Bar, Shanghai

A clever name and a very clever little bar...

Bike nuts and beer lovers, there’s a new bar in town (depending on exactly where you are at the moment) that you MUST know about! Handle Bar is the latest bike-themed bar to open in the funky city of Shanghai and it has been creating a buzz around the cycling and drink-loving community.

Located at Yongkang Lu, Handle Bar is the beer-guzzling baby of Charles Liao, the entrepreneur behind the famous martini bar, Ginseng, across the street. Its offering is simple, to provide quality booze in a relaxed yet oh-so-cool atmosphere, and that’s exactly what it does. Bike wheels are suspended from the ceiling, handle bars are bolted to the wall to hold your handbag and/or jacket, bike seats are set up as chairs, bikes are fixed to the walls and beers are casually listed on a chalk board at the bar.

Handle Bar has an awesome beer offering of imports from all-over including; Chimay Blue, Rogue IPA and Rochefort, as well Stella and Chimay. If beer isn’t your thing, the bar also offers a great range of wines and cocktails that you can cheekily sip on while you admire all the ‘bikies’. Happy hour is run daily from 3-8pm and during this time tap beers (Stella and Chimay) drop to just £1.00, so if you can make it over there it’s definitely worth it! If not, bring your fixed bike in to show the guys here that you ride one and they’ll give you two-for-one on beer and cocktails – not bad at all!

Handle Bar is located in one of Shanghai’s bustling streets and is positioned right next door to pizza shop, Peppone’s. So, if you’re hungry, grab yourself a margherita and bring it back over to the bar – the staff don’t mind!

This very trend little bar only opened in July this year and already it is becoming one of the hottest night spots in Shanghai. Handle Bar is so cool that it doesn’t even have a website (is that cool or just annoying?!) but all you need to know is that its located at; 50 Yongkang Lu, Xiangyang Nan Lu, Xuhui district and the nearest metro station is Jiashan Lu. So go one, grab a drink for Contiki and let us know what you
