Feel free to file this under “amazing and useless information”. There’s not a lot of point in telling you guys this very short, very sweet story, but we kind of found it one of those irresistible pieces of information that we’re sure you might win a trivia night with.
Hollywood, California used to be Hollywoodland.
The 45-foot tall letters on the Hollywood Hills was erected back in 1923 as an advertising campaign to sell property in the city.
During the ‘40s the “land” part of the sign was taken down so that it was no longer an advertisement, but simply a big “Hooray!” for the town.
Can you believe this? We didn’t.
