Invisible bikes by Zhao Huasen

It’s magic.

Zhaohuasen-detail_full_for_exchange

Born in Dalian, Northeast China, photographer Zhao Huasen studied in the experimental art department of the China Academy of Fine Art. Experimental seems right, because his artwork is kind of kooky. In the best possible way.

Huasen takes photos of people riding bicycles, and then erases the bikes. Seems simple enough of a concept, right? But when you look at the images you’ll see just how clever it really is.

It amazingly gives the sense of calmly flying, the people really look like they are hovering and floating through the city. The series is aptly titled Floating.

We usually shy away from the word “whimsical” but this collection of images is whimsical in the word’s truest definition. It’s all a little earnest and sweet – with the perfect amount of magic.
