Irwin Wurm in Liverpool

Gallery of Liverpool until September 22nd.

Austrian artist Irwin Wurm creates the kind of conceptual, surreal and loco art that often makes you think “But… what?!” (Other people might do the old “Modern art = I could do that + but you didn’t” equation.)

His mixed media installations and sculptures are pretty amazing. In particular, his One Minute Sculptures, which is one of his ongoing projects in which “the artist or his models pose in spontaneous ways with everyday items, inserting pencils in ears, propping chairs on eyes, and bringing a host of inanimate objects to life.”

The Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool has 18 of Wurm’s works from the late 1990s on display from June 22nd until September 22nd.

You should go there and then report back to your parents about what could have happened if they had let you stick textas up your nose. You could have been famous!

Open Eye Gallery is at 19 Mann Island, Liverpool Waterfront, Liverpool.
