If you’re not already familiar with Jeff Koons, you probably are unknowingly familiar with his work.
Here’s the quick quiz to find out: You know those big sculptures that look like balloon animals? Y/N
The New York-based artist has just unveiled an exhibition at the Fondation Beyeler in Basel in Switzerland. It’s a show that is attempting to deliver an overview of Koons’ 30 year art career, with many of his most famous and significant pieces on show. There are pieces from all of his artistic eras: the Pre-New, New and Equilibrium series, Statuary series, Luxury and Degradation, Banality and others.
Perhaps his most famous is the Celebration series which is made up of large-scale paintings and sculptures of balloon dogs, Valentine’s Day love-hearts, Easter eggs and other cutesy things.
Pretty amazing and epic pieces to see in the flesh.
Fondation Beyeler is at Riehen 4125 Riehen, Switzerland.
