JM Giordano in Baltimore

American Sugar.

Giordano-detail_full_for_exchange

Photographer JM Giordano has been taking photos since forever. According to his website, it’s been since he was a robot – which was, evidently, quite a young age going by the photo of Giordano dressed in aluminum foil-covered boxes.

His shots have been featured in Rolling Stone, i-D and a bunch of other respected publications but can currently be found on the walls of Baltimore’s Gallery CA.

The show, called American Sugar, is tasty. It’s a Pop Art-influenced collection that depicts all kinds of candy-coloured treats, all the while including some creepy and dark undertones. There are implications of over-indulging in all kinds of things – not just sugar, but maybe sex and even consumption for consumption’s sake.

While Giordano is primarily a photo-snapper, this exhibition displays sculptures too – a first for the Baltimore-based artist.

Gallery CA is at 440 East Oliver Street, Baltimore.
