Crave

Khyber Pass Pub, Philadelphia

Beer and blokes.

Khyber-detail_full_for_exchange

Our sub-title is probably pretty misleading. This is not a pub that only serves beer, or only serves beer to men. There are other drinks available and everybody’s welcome – it just seems that beer and blokes are their specialty.

This dive bar is great – it feels like “classic” Philly (whatever that is) – it’s dimly lit, there are friendly, but not too friendly staff and locals at the bar.

We recommend joining them up there, asking for a little advice with the tap beers and having a chat. If you know a little about beer, you’ll be in. These guys have a “No crap on tap” rule and lots of different varieties available.

Once you’ve worked up a hunger, it’s dinner/lunch (the kitchen is open until 1am every day). Everything looks, smells and tastes good, but keep in mind this is not the place to be on a diet. There are chicken wings in chipotle-bourbon and honey habanero sauces, bacon grease popcorn, Khyber house-made gumbo, pulled pork – you name it.

You’ll leave kilos heavier and kilos happier. Khyber Pass Pub is at 56 South Second Street, Philadelphia.
