Southern California-born, Bristol-based artist Lola is about to open her solo exhibition Haro at the brand spanking new CHG Circa gallery. Lola’s work is trippy and creepy – they are morphed versions of reality where strange mutated environments and characters exist. It’s like dreams have come to life – with a dash of nightmare. These oil and acrylic paintings often depict motifs like bones, skulls, teeth, and lots of odd creatures – human hands with bear heads, owl faces on female torsos, kittens, horses, and very menacing looking canaries. At the same time, the care and precision and colours that are all involved in the work makes them seem much more carefully considered – somehow that makes them less creepy and more beautiful.
