London fashion week. Love it or hate it, it rolls around every year, twice a year, bringing with it decadence, ludicrous parties, the inevitable models of the moment (cue Delevinge and Dunn), and of course, fashion! Check out our round up on what was making the news (and the Instagram feeds) for this years LFW:
What’s the measure of success for a great show…an incredible collection? Great press coverage? Well, perhaps, but equally important is who you can pull in on the front row! Top points go to those that can entice the likes of fashion heavy weights Anna Wintour and Anna Dello Russo, bonus points go to Burberry Prorsum for igniting a flirting fest between Sienna Miller and Harry Styles, and anyone that can attract David Beckham with baby daughter in tow, hats off to you.
Parties and fashion week are like Pimms and Lemonade – an inevitable combination. This year a number of high fashion brands took the opportunity to launch new flagship stores around London, namely Longchamp and Belstaff (who enlisted the current fashion week favourite David Beckham as the face of the brand). Vogue, Marie Claire, W Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar all hosted showstoppers, but top prize goes to AnOther Magazine for their nursery rhyme inspired party. From looking at images of hardened party goer Kate Moss falling asleep in the back of a taxi, it sure must have been a good one!
LFW 2013 was the year Instagram stamped it’s authority as THE coolest photo sharing platform amongst the public, celebrities and brands alike, and no more so than by the continued presence of its dapper yet undeniably geeky founder Kevin Systrom. Popping up on the front row of big name shows and hosting parties with the likes of Lily Cole, Systrom’s LFW appearances speak volumes for the cudos of Instagram within the fashion world, and following Vogue’s recent all Instagram photo shoot, does this signify Instagram as the future of fashion photography?
THIS GIRL IS EVERYWHERE! With her bushy eyebrows, celebrity wifeys and those selfies that scream ‘I don’t give a damn so I’m a gonna stick out my tongue and cross my eyes but secretly do care as I have 2.6 million Instagram followers’, you literally can’t escape her. This year she modelled (and in her defence looking SMOKING) for, amongst others, Burberry, Topshop Unique and Mulberry, but it’s off the catwalk that Cara causes the biggest stir. Hosting the W Magazine party, causing havoc at the Marie Claire closing party, secretly snogging Harry Styles…but then again this girl is only 21, so in her situation we all would, most likely, do the exact same thing!
And so finally we get to what London Fashion Week is ACTUALLY all about, fashion! Showcasing designs for Spring/Summer 14, this year saw incredible designs from the likes of Christoper Kane, Holly Fulton, Giles Deacon, Erdem and Vivienne Westwood. Sleek sportswear, pastel and nude shades, floral designs, and flattering female shapes dominated the runways this year, with some designers choosing to showcase their designs in increasingly creative and elaborate ways. Stella Mccartney’s designs for Adidas saw models upside down submerged in tanks of water, while hand bag designer Anya Hindmarsh chose a zero gravity theme for her show, with dancers and bags alike suspended on wires. All in all, LFW 2013 smashed it yet again in the fashion stakes, cementing London’s reputation as THE city for fashion creativity.
