Japanese artist Madsaki hasn’t had a solo exhibition since the 2009 show called All I Dream About is Sunsex/Painting.
Now though, the painter has returned with In Between, a show that’s currently on at Tokyo’s Clear Edition & Gallery.
It’s a strange mixture of paintings and installation-style layout – it seems almost haphazard in its hanging style. And then there is the work itself: crude in the true sense of the word (not rude, kind of seemingly unrefined) and colourful, the collection as a whole has a really playful and childlike undertone.
But it’s not all sunshine and smiley faces. Nothing ever is.
(Wow, that was a morbid way to finish up!)
Clear Edition & Gallery is at 2F Kishida Bldg, 7-18-8 Roppongi, Tokyo.
