H&M has just confirmed that French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela will be the latest luxury label to release a collaborative collection with the high street chain!
Fashion bible, WWD, broke a rumour just a couple of days ago saying that according to market sources, H&M would announce the news that Maison Martin Margiela was the next collaborator, and just 24 hours later it was in fact confirmed. The planned one-off collection has got the fashion press in a spin as they now eagerly await further details and Vogue, Grazia and The Telegraph are all running with the story so we thought, what the heck, we might as well too! Maison Martin Margiela will be in good company with this collection as it joins the likes of Marni, Lanvin, Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney, who have all released high-street ready versions of their famed designs through collaborations with H&M.
Maison Martin Margiela is known for its take on masculine vs feminine, as well as its deconstructed silhouettes, so this is gives you a rough idea of what could be expected from the collaboration. The label was established by publicity-shy Blegian designer Martin Margial in 1989 and is famed for its cleft-toe boots, deconstructed tailoring and surrealist approach to fashion. In 2002, the label was bought by Diesel founder Renzo Russo though the original signature design characteristics are still very much the same.
The H&M collaboration announcements are always received with much-excitement and once the designs finally hit stores frenzied fans fight to take get a piece of the action. Queue’s often start the day before launch (sometimes even earlier – intense!) and once the doors open it is complete havoc. A collaboration like this will certainly bring Maison Martin Margiela to the forefront of the public eye (not that it a luxury label of its caliber really needs it) and would delight fashion lovers who would have a chance to purchase one of its famous avant-garde inspired designs at a fraction of the price.
For now, we will all have to wait for more information about the collection but in the mean time get excited about the next confirmed collaboration. In October H&M will be releasing an accessories collection in collaboration with Vogue Japan Fashion Director, Anna Dello Russo, entitled AdR for H&M. We want it already.
