You guys might not recognise the name Marina Abramovic, but we’re pretty sure you’d have heard about her art. She’s often described as “that weird lady who sits around and doesn’t eat or anything and does weird stuff and that’s her art”.
This is an amazing woman, though. New York-based and Serbian-born, Abramovic creates art that is entirely challenging and really messes with the human psyche. She manipulates while giving her audience a feeling of power. Basically, you should read about her and see her performance-art if ever possible.
But this Tumblr site is dedicated to people who have witnessed her performance at MoMA called The Artist Is Present, in which she sat at a table for hours and hours and hours a day, barely moving, not eating, not drinking.
Viewers were allowed to sit at the table opposite her – some tried to make her break, make her smile, make her react. This is a series of images of people who found the experience so moving and profound that they ended up in tears.
