Nailed in Los Angeles

At Subliminal Projects art space.

Nailed-detail_full_for_exchange

This nail art thing has been getting bigger and bigger and bigger over the past few years, but it’s been around for a lot longer. (When we say “a lot longer”, we mean this stuff originated in Ming Dynasty China.)

So it makes sense that a book – Nailed: The History of Nail Culture and Dzine – was published last year.

Now the book has inspired an exhibition, with artwork by Liz Baca, Gabriella Davi-Khorasanee, Dzine, Igor Jovic, Dominique Renee, Jamel Shabazz, Mickalene Thomas, Simone Lueck, Chris Mosier, Kai Regan and Monika Zbijowska.

The show focuses on nail art from the more underground, ‘hood aspects to its high-end glamour and fashion presence.

The exhibition opens September 7th but we recommend going down there for closing weekend which will involve music, drinks and nail art for the public.

Hair done, nails done, errything did.

Nailed is showing from September 7th to October 6th at Subliminal Projects, 1331 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles.
