Nuit Des Musées – Paris, May 19th

Explore the museums of Paris at night...

Experience a ‘night at the museum’ this May as cultural hot spots around Paris come to life with special debates, conferences, exhibitions and competitions during extended evening hours. On May 19th hundreds of museums across Paris including the Musée d’Art Moderne, the Maison de Victor Hugo, Musée Bourdelle, the Pompidou and the glass-roofed Petit Palais, will be open until around 12am and will be generally free of charge, gotta love that!

The event is part of the Unesco-endorsed Nuit des Musées or Night of Museums initiative which sees museums across major European cities stay open for the evening ,allowing tourists, travellers and even locals the chance to take in the culture and history of each city in an unusual way. Visitors to the museums enjoy a unique itinerary of events for that one night only, so even if you’ve visited the museums before you can be sure to enjoy some never-been-seen-before added extras.

The festivities for the evening are varied and will include live music such as a jazz performance at the Museum of Modern Art, film screenings, dancing and pop-up exhibitions. This awesome event attracts a lot of people, particularly the young, so, get your mates together and enjoy a unique evening experiencing Parisian culture and history without the hustle of group tour crowds and the often pricey admission fees.

The Night of Museums began in 2005 and aims to make museums more accessible to the general public and in particular young people. In 2012, more than 4,000 museums participated in 40 different countries and it is expected that this year’s event will be even bigger and better so it simply can’t be missed! You can find a full event program at;

Once you’ve checked out the museums be sure to make the most of your time in this beautiful city and explore other Parisian highlights that are particularly cool in the eve. Walk along the River Seine, head to the Eiffel Tower or climb the Montmartre and you’ll quickly see why Paris is known as the ‘City of Lights’. If you’re hungry, grab some of the delicious street food on offer which you can find open for most of the night -the crêpes are a must and are the perfect way to finish off the eve.
