Radio Africa and Kitchen, San Francisco

By chef Eskender Aseged.

Radioafrica-detail_full_for_exchange_full_for_exchange

Radio Africa and Kitchen is a restaurant run by chef Eskender Aseged. Aseged is from Ethiopia, but arrived in San Francisco in the ‘80s where he worked with some top-notch chefs and cooks in some pretty special restaurants.

Radio Africa was created and inspired by Aseged’s childhood in Ethiopia where only one house in his neighbourhood had a radio, so all the children would listen to music and sports telecasts together.

This nurturing and sharing that’s offered by real community is the whole vibe of Radio Africa. Not only is the feeling wholesome, the food is too – seasonal and fresh and of high quality. And the menu changes every week.

At the moment you can try wild salmon kitfo, chicken and prawn jambalaya, and all kinds of treats that have an African and Western blend. Can we all please have a serve of honey-roasted plum crisps with vanilla ice-cream and candied ginger?

Radio Africa and Kitchen is at 4800 Third Street, San Francisco.
