Sofo, Stockholm

Scandinavia’s answer to Soho...

Stockholm’s Södermalm district started out as a rundown working-class area in the centre of town but has since reinvented itself as a trendy, charming and unique hotspot. The area is packed with unusual and interesting fashion boutiques, restaurants, bars and clubs, and has a bohemian-type vibe that that has both locals and visitors in a flurry.

Sofo is a part of the district, and is named after New York and London’s, Soho. Basically it is the area south of Folkungagatan and it has become a haunt for the young, trendy and oh so cool. Here, you will find pretty little streets lined with galleries and boutiques that showcase the coolest in clothes, design, jewellery, vintage, homewares, books, magazines and music. There is a lot to look at but we thought we’d shout out a few of our faves and would love to hear back about some of yours.

This is an awesome boutique that specialises in clothes, shoes, accessories, jewellery and vintage pieces. It has a huge selection of pieces, with a focus on Swedish designers, and showcases both well-known names and up-and-coming designers.

When you step inside Sivlettoyou will feel as though you’ve been transported back to the 50s, amazing! This lifestyle boutique offers the usual vintage clothing and knickknacks that you won’t find on the high street and comes complete with a hairdresser and’ll never want to leave.

Cafe String

Continuing with our 50’s theme, Cafe String is a relaxed Sofo favourite that attracts young crowds and offers coffee from thermos or huge cups of team decorated with 50s and 60s designs. The cool thing about this place is that everything inside the cafe is for sale. Like that chair? Consider it sold! Fancy a unique souvenir? Why not take that teacup with you...

Cafe String

Louie Louie

This rock-n-roll cafe attracts the MacBook crowd (those young and very very cool) and features live music, music for sale and a rockabilly decor. The cafe offers reasonable priced sandwiches, pastries and coffee, and is the perfect spot to kick back with your mates after you’ve seen the shops.

Louie Louie

There’s a tonne more to see and do in Sofo so what we suggest is that you get yourself over to the Södermalm district and explore it’s many little pockets certainly won’t be disappointed. Trendy fashion boutiques, awesome cafes and bars and a very cool crowd, how could you go wrong?!
