You know you’re onto a serious seafood spot when the menu changes daily.
The dynamic duo behind Son of a Gun is not playing when it comes to super-fresh, super-tasty treats from the sea. Said duo is Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo, who are co-owners and chefs at the LA restaurant.
You might have already heard of Shook and Dotolo because of their acclaimed eatery Animal (where meat is on the menu, even for dessert) for which they won Food & Wine Best Chefs in 2009.
Son of a Gun is social, laid-back, chill, but not about its food. We suggest oysters (always), the smoked steelhead on pumpernickel, and the shrimp toast. But definitely check out what the wait staff suggests – they know what is freshest and tastiest on the day.
Also, don’t forget how friendly Americans are, if you’re seated next to a group of mega-babes, by them a drink. You can splash out on a $900+ bottle of Dom, or ease in with something less showy. Which is why we like this place: it’s for everybody and anybody. But, you have to like fish, we guess.
