California-based artist Souther Salazar (is that not the greatest name ever?) has just unveiled his solo show, You and Me (and the Mouse in the Moon), at Toronto’s NARWHAL Projects.
As a teenager, Salazar made homemade cut-n-paste style ‘zines before completing a degree at the Art Center College of Design in LA’s Pasadena. Since then, Salazar has been creating his art utilizing a variety of techniques and materials; collages, drawings, paintings, sculptures, you name it.
On display at NARWHAL is a range of Salazar’s work, but the consistent theme is his playful and colourful style. His childlike, wide-eyed approach to each piece is incredibly endearing, but in no way makes his art less appealing to adult-sized brains.
If you’re in Toronto, get some maple syrup (sorry) and also go to the show.
